A Little About Humboldt Electric Ltd.

Humboldt Electric Ltd. has been part of the Saskatchewan community for over 49 years. In 1966, Bob and Shirley McConnell bought an electrical business in Humboldt, Saskatchewan where they were able to steadily grow the company by providing services to local businesses, as well as to the Humboldt community as a whole.

For nearly 15 years the company operated within Humboldt, Saskatchewan. By 1980, Humboldt Electric was competitively bidding more work within the Saskatoon area, which led to the relocation of the company into the city of Saskatoon. At the time, many of the company's employees made the move with Humboldt Electric, a true testament to the great work environment fostered by the McConnell owners. In the early 1980s Humboldt Electric employed 15 Electricians, which has since grown to a workforce of up to 150 Electricians. Although many things have changed within the company since 1966, a number of employees are still part of the Humboldt Electric team.

Due to the hard work and dedication of many key stakeholders within Humboldt Electric's history, the company has been able to continually grow and develop itself into one of Saskatchewan's leading Commercial Electrical Contractors. Company founder, Bob McConnell, attibutes much of Humboldt Electric Ltd.'s success to the natural resources of Saskatchewan, as well as the employees who have had an incredible impact on the company over the last 49 years.

Humboldt Electric's Current Operations

Humboldt Electric Ltd. provides the highest quality services in commercial, industrial and residential wiring, computer and telephone cabling, fibre optics and design/assist projects. Our service department provides 24-hour emergency service to our customers and is comprised of experienced and dedicated employees who can answer our customers' questions and solve all service issues in an efficient manner. 

During peak construction periods, our workforce is comprised of up to 150 employees and consists of a fleet of over 20 trucks which operate throughout the entire province. With a diverse workforce, the experience of our employees range from Journeypersons with over 40 years to new Apprentices dedicated to learning the trade. Currently, our workforce consists of 41 Journeypersons and 66 Apprentices with a wide range of experience and knowledge. 

As a company we work hard to stay at the forefront of technological advances, while ensuring that we keep up with all new developments within the Electrical and Construction Industry. Humboldt Electric Ltd. strives to foster and maintain key business relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders in the industry to ensure that we are up to date on all the newest products, services and technologies available today. As such, this has allowed us to pass on our expertise and experience to our valued customers, providing our comany with a serious competitive advantage. Humboldt Electric Ltd. is a certified provider of both data cabling and fibre optic systems allowing us to design, install and maintain data cable and fibre optic components. 

We are actively involved in the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship Program for Electrical Journeypersons, often hiring High School Graduates who want to work towards their Journeypersons certification. Humboldt Electric is also involved in the Saskatoon Industry Education Council, providing internships and career education opportunities for youth. These programs have had great success rates within our company, with over half of the student participants gaining permanent employment with Humboldt Electric Ltd. upon graduation. Furthermore, we continually participate in career fairs and student internships  in order to ensure effective recruitment strategies. It was always Bob McConnell's belief that Humboldt Electric Ltd.'s foundation should be built upon strong relationships with employees, suppliers, other tradespeople and even local competitors. Current company President, Darren McConnell, has echoed that belief, building on his father's foundation to move Humboldt Electric Ltd. forward into the age of fibre optics, data links and highly complex jobs. Humboldt Electric Ltd.'s objectives and goals have always been focused, yet very simple, and will continue to remain the same for many years to come-working as a team towards a common goal. For over 49 years Humboldt Electric Ltd. has fostered a work environment that emphasises collaborative work initiatives and cooperation to get the job done to the best of the company's abilities.
